A small handful of us made it out the day after Thanksgiving for drinks and a movie. We met up at The Cat House bar at 5 pm for a drink and socializing. (Thanks to Jim for going across the street to Top Dog to pick up some food for us!) At 6:30 pm, we meandered over to Grand Lake Theater for the 7 pm viewing of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The superhero sagas continue!
On Sunday, October 30th, 2022, roughly a dozen members participated in the first outing of the Social Movie Club. We met at the Regal UA Berkeley theater for the 3 pm screening of Spirited Away, which was showing as part of Ghibli Fest 2022. Afterward, we walked a couple blocks to Jupiter; we split into two groups and got to know one another while enjoying food and drink in a cozy back patio.
Spirited Away is an Academy Award-winning film, written and directed by the acclaimed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. It tells the story of Chihiro, a ten-year-old girl who, while moving to a new neighborhood, enters the world of Kami (spirits of Japanese Shinto folklore). After her parents are turned into pigs by the witch Yubaba, Chihiro takes a job working in Yubaba's bathhouse to find a way to free herself and her parents and return to the human world.
